1 week to Hero Round Table

Welcome to Issue 0008

The Hero Round Table countdown is down to just 7 days! Our Australian contingent of the Round Table team is now in Michigan getting ready for the big day. This time next week we'll be running the conference, and hanging out with all the amazing people that come to The Hero Round Table events. It's been 3 years since our last event so we're a bit out of practice but we make up for it with enthusiasm. Dates for both Hero Round Table events are listed below as well as a link to book your tickets. Can't wait to see you there!!

Hartland, Michigan - October 28 & 29. Yarram, Australia - November 19 & 20. San Francisco, USA - March (we're still finalizing the actual days, but it will be in the week of the 13th to 19th)

"People like Jamila Afghani shine a light of hope on the future and show us all a way out of the darkness.” Jamila Afghani is the 2022 winner of the Aurora Prize, for being an educator, Human rights advocate, and founder of the Noor Educational and Capacity Development Organization (NECDO). Through NECDO she supports Afghan women in need through education and cash donations. Link to the story Here and link to NECDO Here

“One of the nice things is that for some of these people, the last thing they would have heard was a kind Australian voice.” Cross of Valour Recipient Tim Britten reflects on the Bali Bombings and his role in the immediate aftermath. Tim ran toward the epicenter of the attack, offering help and pulling victims from the wreckage. Link Here

"I came back to Iran with peace of mind although I had a lot of tension and stress." Iranian local Elnaz Rekabi reflects on competing in a South Korean climbing competition without a headscarf. This comes as Iranian protests reach their 5th week following the death of Mahsa Amini in morality police custody. Link Here

Karun Kaushik founded DomcratizeHealth after he nearly lost his mother to Pneumonia. Now his treatment can accurately diagnose in under a minute. Due to issues with funding and equipment availability pneumonia is often misdiagnosed or left untreated in remote areas. Using an AI-based tool Karun was able put affordable, accurate, and remotely accessible diagnosis tools in the hands of impoverished hospitals and doctors. You can find his website Here
