HIP Newsletter - Issue 0025

Welcome to Issue 0025

The past few weeks at the Heroic Imagination Project have been nothing short of extraordinary. Dr. Zimbardo's 90th Birthday Celebration unfolded seamlessly, providing a wonderful opportunity for us to connect with numerous international partners. Among those present were Gyorgyi Orosz from Hungary, Mariana Reis Barbosa from the Catholic University of Porto in Portugal, Mauro Cozzolino and Giovanna Celia from the University of Salerno in Italy, and many others. Over the coming weeks, we will share summaries of the remarkable work and achievements presented by some of these participants.

Gyorgyi Orosz: Hero Square Foundation

School-Based Program: Gyorgyi has made a significant difference in her native Hungary through her involvement with the Hero Square Foundation, an organization dedicated to equipping individuals with the tools to act heroically. In 2022/23 alone, they reached nearly 3,000 teachers, impacting the lives of over 51,000 students. The foundation is committed to fostering lasting cultural change over the next 1-5 years, acknowledging that such transformation requires time and effort.

Heroes of Tomorrow Board Game: To make heroism training accessible and engaging for children and families, the Hero Square Foundation developed an educational board game focused on imparting lessons of heroism. While currently available in Hungarian, a translation is in progress.

Parent Service Podcast: This informative podcast offers valuable insights to parents on heroism, growth mindset, and practical strategies for incorporating lessons of heroism into everyday parenting.

The Hero Square Foundation has ambitious plans for the future, and you can learn more about their current and upcoming initiatives on their website (link provided below). The website is in Hungarian, but depending on your browser, you can request a translation.

There are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality; and then there are those who turn one into the other.

As we draw this edition of our newsletter to a close, I am filled with a deep sense of gratitude and admiration. The recent HIP Summit and Dr. Zimbardo's Birthday Celebration brought together individuals from all corners of the globe, each of whom embodies the spirit of heroism that we strive to celebrate and foster.

To our esteemed guests and participants from overseas, we offer our sincerest thanks. Your willingness to traverse oceans and continents to join us in this exchange of ideas, experiences, and inspiration is a testament to your unwavering commitment to the cause of heroism. Your diverse perspectives and boundless enthusiasm have enriched our conversations and broadened our collective understanding of what it means to be a hero in today's world.

In these days spent together, we have witnessed the power of unity and camaraderie. The friendships forged and connections made will undoubtedly serve as the foundation for future collaborations, transcending borders and uniting us in our shared pursuit of a more compassionate and heroic world.

As we bid farewell and reflect upon the HIP summit's profound impact, let us carry forward the lessons learned and the spirit of heroism that has been so beautifully displayed. Let us commit to fostering the sparks ignited during our time together, nurturing them into flames that can light the way for others to follow.

In closing, we would like to express our deepest gratitude once again to our overseas attendees and all those who contributed to the success of this remarkable event. We are honored to have had the opportunity to learn from and alongside you. May the spirit of heroism continue to guide us all, wherever our journeys may lead.

With heartfelt appreciation,

Joel Halbert
