HIP Newsletter - Issue 0027

Welcome to Issue 0027

In this week's issue, we're excited to shine a spotlight on one of our valued partners at HIP, Mariana Barbosa, and her remarkable contributions in Portugal. Mariana has earned a Ph.D. in Psychology of Justice from Minho University and currently serves as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Education and Psychology at the Catholic University of Portugal. With a strong focus on Human Rights and Peace Psychology, Mariana has been dedicatedly developing and assessing the effectiveness of HIP programs in northern Portugal since 2018.

Empowering the Youth in Portugal

Mariana has designed and implemented several HIP programs tailored for different age groups:

HIP Kids - Aimed at elementary school students (3rd and 4th grades) and middle school students (5th and 6th grades).

HIP Teens - Targeting middle school students (7th, 8th, and 9th grades) and high school students (10th grade).

These programs include interactive sessions featuring non-formal education, debates, videos, and role-playing activities. The sessions cover concepts of heroism, conformity, discrimination, and Psychological First Aid for Heroes.

Mariana's work has reached numerous schools in Portugal, including the Alberto Sampaio High School, de Nogueira Middle School, and the Oporto International School, among others. Her programs have shown promising results, with students reporting increased awareness and understanding of the principles of heroism, empathy, and responsible action.

If you would like access to the results of Mariana's studies you can contact me at the email address right at the bottom of this Issue.

In addition to her HIP programs, Mariana has conducted research and published papers on the psychology of heroism, human rights, and peace education. She is also involved in various local and international conferences, sharing her insights and experiences with fellow educators and professionals to further promote the values of the Heroic Imagination Project.

The most effective way to do it, is to do it
