THE PAST
It has been a month since the mini-European adventure ended and I completely fell off the weekly email wagon.
In London, I spent some time with old friends of HIP and met a few new friends. As a result, I will be a guest on Mr. Dilly’s live show for schools in the U.K. on May 1st. (Link here to register)
Paris saw the third annual HIP Summit held in the lovely Église Saint Germain des Prés in the heart of the Left Bank. Thanks to Geoffrey Staines for the recommendation. HIP partners from around Europe joined us for a day of reflecting and plotting. New friends from Brazil also joined us the following day for an in-person training with board member, Thomas Sartor.
The third leg was a reunion with our friends in Nijmegen where whispers of another Hero Round Table were heard.
Board members, Ari Kohen and Brian Riches released a new paper this month entitled, “I Am Not a Hero: How Heroic Action Divorces the Hero from the Political Community”. (Link to download the paper)
Another board member, Allison Evans, presented HIP at the Western Psychology Association conference last week.
We completed a Level 2 course this month with participants from France, India, the U.S., and Australia. The time zones were tricky with daylight savings starting, ending, and not even happening across the six weeks, but we made it through. If you’re interested in the next class, see below.
THE FUTURE
HIP is running its first event in Australia (in the Southern Hemisphere, even) on September 25th. Mark it on your calendar and stay tuned. The event is a one-day gig and is focused on young people. Many of the HIP board members will be there and we’re looking for other opportunities to teach heroism across the city or the continent.
I will be giving a couple of workshops in Europe in June. Cities are being finalized in the next couple of weeks, so if you know a good venue where you live (and an audience would be even better), let me know.
The Level 2 course is a six-session face-to-face (Zoom) programme set up as a reverse classroom. You’ll receive reading and viewing material in between meetings for discussion. The class is capped at 6 people, so if you want to sign up for a May/June start, respond to this email.
That’s it for this week. We’re back to weekly emails with stories of heroism from around the world, updates from HIP, and the latest research and reporting on heroism. We’re descending into the darkness of winter down here in South Gippsland. Hope you’re in a lighter and warmer place!
